چکیده
Calciphylaxis, necrotizing livedo reticularis or calcific uraemic arteriolopathy (CUA) is an almost always fatal disease characterized by painful skin lesions localized on the lower extremities. This complication is typically observed in patients with end-stage renal disease on dialysis or after recent kidney transplantation [1,2]. Key histopathological features include calcification of the media of small and medium-sized vessels evolving to skin necrosis with secondary gangrene, sepsis and eventually death in 60% of cases [3]. The specific etiopathogenetic mechanisms involved in CUA are still poorly understood. Although dysregulation of calcium-phosphorus metabolism and secondary hyperparathyroidism are often prominent findings, there are many reports in which these parameters are completely normal [1]. We present a unique case of a patient with a normal kidney transplant function who developed fatal calciphylaxis more than 20 years after transplantation.

Calciphylaxis following kidney transplantation: a case report
INTRODUCTION Calciphylaxis occurring after kidney transplantation is rare and rarely reported. It results in chronic non-healing wounds and is associated with a poor prognosis and is often fatal. We present a case of proximal lower limb calciphylaxis that occurred early after kidney transplantation. The patient had no classic associated risk factors. He had previously had a total parathyroidect...
متن کاملSuccessful Management of Calciphylaxis in a Kidney Transplant Patient: Case Report
UNLABELLED Calciphylaxis is a rare and often fatal condition mostly associated with end-stage renal disease. The pathophysiology remains elusive and treatment options are scarce. We present a rare case of severe calciphylaxis after kidney transplantation in a patient with persistent hyperparathyroidism. CASE DESCRIPTION A 78-year-old man with a history of end-stage renal disease developed ede...
متن کاملNon Uremic Calciphylaxis Post Liver Transplantation: A Case Report and Literature Review of an Unusual Presentation of a Rare Disease
BACKGROUND Calciphylaxis results from abnormal calcification of small to medium sized vessels, resulting in painful ischemic necrosis of the surrounding tissues. It is most commonly seen in patients with end stage renal disease on dialysis, but has also been reported in patients with preserved renal function. CASE REPORT We report a case of non uremic calciphylaxis in a 65-year-old female who p...
متن کاملKIDNEY TRANSPLANTATION IN CHILDREN: RESULTS OF TEN YEARS EXP ERIENCE IN IMAM REZA HOSPITAL
Advances in nephrology and pediatric urology have increased the number of children who survive renal disease and become candidates for renal transplantation. Ten years of experience in pediatric renal transplantation are reviewed to determine the rates of patient morbidity and graft survival. Of the 450 renal transplantations performed in Imam Reza Hospital (1989- 1999), fifty-one were don...
متن کاملCalciphylaxis from nonuremic causes: a systematic review.
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Calciphylaxis, or calcific uremic arteriolopathy, is a well-described entity in end-stage kidney disease and renal transplant patients; however, little systematic information is available on calciphylaxis from nonuremic causes. This systematic review was designed to characterize etiologies, clinical features, laboratory abnormalities, and prognosis of nonuremic calciph...
